My research interests include music (popular, jazz, avant-garde), cultural studies, and improvisation, with a particular focus on the affective connections between aesthetics and politics. I have taught courses in music history, American popular culture, and the humanities, in addition private percussion lessons, improvising ensembles, and workshops.

I earned my PhD in the Department of Comparative Studies at the Ohio State University. I also hold degrees from the California Institute of the Arts (MA, MFA) and Capital University’s Conservatory (BM). I play the drums, and host the Public Cultural Studies podcast.
